  The Sourdough Mining Co. Restaurant is not as old as it appears! Designed as a close replica of the mill house at Independence Mine, which operated in the early 1900's.

The mining tunnel entrance and waiting area was built out of actual rock blasted from exploration shafts of Independence Mine, Hatchers Pass, Alaska. Look close and see the gold laced quartz. No samples please!

Independence Mine is a 2 hour drive from Anchorage.
